Teaching & Learning
At Two Oceans Graduate Institute (TOGI), teaching and learning are rooted in a student-centred philosophy that places the learner at the heart of all academic and institutional endeavours. Delivered entirely online, the mode of instruction is purposefully designed to support student success through flexible, accessible, and innovative approaches.
TOGI employs a learning strategy that integrates both synchronous (real-time) and asynchronous (self-paced) learning activities. This blend allows students to engage meaningfully with content, peers, and lecturers, while balancing their studies with personal and professional commitments. A robust Learning Management System (LMS), enriched with a variety of integrated digital tools, forms the foundation of the learning environment, enhancing interactivity and deepening engagement.
Our approach to teaching is informed by the Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework, which emphasises the integration of technology, pedagogy, and subject content as essential components of effective teaching practice in the 21st century. Through this lens, TOGI prepares students to become competent and reflective educators, capable of navigating diverse and dynamic classroom contexts.
The academic programme is structured around a carefully curated curriculum aligned with national and international standards, including those of the Higher Education Learning and Teaching Association of Southern Africa (HELTASA) and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). This ensures academic rigour, relevance, and responsiveness to the evolving needs of the education sector.
Guided by the African philosophy of Ubuntu, TOGI fosters a culture of empathy, respect, and interconnectedness in all student-lecturer interactions and institutional practices. We are committed to ongoing professional development and cultivating a vibrant, collaborative learning community that extends across South Africa and beyond.
