On March 4th, Two Oceans Graduate Institute is set to host its fifth graduation ceremony with Dr. Shaheeda Essack as the keynote speaker.
Dr Shaheeda Essack is currently employed as the Director: for Private Higher Education Institutions at the Department of Higher Education and Training (Department) and is currently Director: Registration of Private Higher Education Institutions. Dr Essack has a D-Phil in Sociology (University of Durban-Westville) and a PhD in Higher Education (University of Stellenbosch). Dr Essack’s experience encompasses teaching at schools and universities, peer mentoring, curriculum development, policy development and policy analysis. She has extensive experience in teaching, management in higher education at both the academic and administrative levels. From 2002 to current, she joined the Department of Education now called the Department of Higher Education and Training.
Dr Essack serves on various committees including the accreditation committee of the Council on Higher Education. She has presented papers at several conferences, both local and international. She served as Vice-President for Africa on the research committee on education (RC-04) of the International Sociology Association (ISA) and currently serves as the Secretary of the RC-04. Her research interests include student/staff/curriculum development in higher education, policy development and policy implementation mainly in the area of private higher education. Her expertise is developed largely around the management and monitoring of private higher education institutions in post-apartheid SA.
In 2013, Dr Essack was one of 5 finalists in the National Batho-Pele Excellence Awards for Best Public Service delivery in the category of Best-Frontline Service Delivery.
