This publication follows a successful Research Sharing Day that was held in August 2020, realizing the vision of CEO of the institute, Dr Lourens Erasmus, to establish a research culture at the institution. As stated in the introduction to the journal, Dr Erasmus:

‘Why is research a priority at the Two Oceans Graduate? The reason is very simple: The quality of our online teaching and learning is our priority. The quality of online teaching and learning is informed by continued research. It is an institutional imperative that research, as the scholarly act and process of knowledge creation, should inform teaching and learning in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The vision of the institution is to develop through its cohort of academics, research designs and solutions as a contribution to the educational needs and challenges in the South African context and beyond.’

The articles taken up in this first publication vary in length and scope and it promises some very stimulating reading to a wide audience.

We are looking forward to the next and following editions of the TOGI journal.
